In the first half of the XVIIIth century, there was a windmill on village territory called « Meul'houck », in English « windmill place».
A rural hamlet which is typically Flemish, the eco-museum in Boomelaers Wall recounts life on the farm during this era.
Before its destruction in 1909, it also served as a landmark for fishermen from Zuydcoote (since it was built on a mound).

A man from our area, Father Frédéric JANSSONNE was born in Ghyvelde in a place called Meule-houck, on 19 November 1838, his life unfolded on three continents, in France, in Palestine and in Egypt; in Québec, where he died on 4 August 1916, he was laid to rest in the Trois Rivières; 70 years after his death he was declared Blessed by Pope Jean-Paul II on 25 September 1988. A stele was constructed at the site of his native home in Meul’houck
Since the 1980s the hamlet has changed in appearance, with the creation of a residential quarter; a tourist area which comprises several camp sites (Caravaning du Lac …) .
The combination of both these elements brings a dynamic to the district.
